Welcome to JDB Surveys, a RICS Regulated Chartered Building Surveying practice. Our Director, Jon Battle, has over 30 years experience in construction and property and specialises in the inspection and valuation of residential properties.
Consultancy services we offer
We specialise in residential properties but also carry out surveys on different types of buildings across various sectors. Typically, we work with potential buyers or commercial tenants who want to assess the level of risk before acquiring property. We also work with existing owners who wish to protect their investment and with commercial tenants who have a legal obligation to maintain their property under the terms of a lease.
Level 2 and 3 Surveys
For all types of residential property. We provide a comprehensive report on the construction, condition and value of the property.

Suited to clients in a rush to complete, once your offer is accepted you or your advisor accompany me on the survey.
Specific Defect Investigations
We typically carry out these instructions if a particular problem or concern has been flagged during a preliminary inspection, i.e. by a mortgage lender's valuer. It focuses on issues such as subsidence, damp, or structural movement.
Schedule of Condition
A Schedule of Condition records the condition of a property at a particular time. It is usually supported by photographs, sketches and drawings. It is prepared prior to the commencement of adjacent construction work or to limit the liabilities of an incoming tenant (commercial or residential) at the commencement of a lease.
Valuations
Help to Buy Valuations
If you have a Help to Buy loan and decide to sell your home, remortgage or redeem your loan, you need a valuation by an independent RICS Registered Valuer. We have been providing Help to Buy valuations since 2016 and have a 100% approval rate with the Homes & Communities Agency.
Inheritance Tax Valuations
An inheritance tax valuation undertaken by a RICS Registered Valuer. It is used to determine the tax that must be paid on an estate before it passes to the beneficiaries. The general rule for inheritance tax purposes is that the value of any property is the price it might reasonably be expected to fetch if sold in the open market at that time. This is the so-called Market Value.
Valuation for Divorce Proceedings
A valuation for divorce proceedings is a professional, independent assessment of the fair market value of jointly-owned property assets, at a specific point in time. It is typically performed by a RICS Registered Valuer or expert witness. This impartial valuation is crucial for fairly dividing assets in a divorce settlement. It ensures all parties have an accurate financial picture for negotiations or court proceedings.
